Specs for Wholesale Wood Slabs

We sell our live edge wood slabs as flitches, meaning that slabs from a single log are stored together. When looking at a slab, you'll notice that each has a slab ID and a log ID. The slabs with matching IDs come from the same log.

Our method consists of air-drying the slabs for approximately two years and placing them in a kiln to complete the process. We recommend kiln drying because it prevents warping. The result is a solid, sturdy slab that's ready for crafting into a beautiful product.

We estimate the width of our wholesale timber slabs by taking left, center and right measurements and calculating the average of the three results. The price we assign depends on the width and the material type. We offer slabs made from:

  • Ash
  • Black and English Walnut
  • Cherry
  • Hickory
  • Maple
  • Sycamore
  • Pin, Red and White Oak
  • Red Elm
  • Poplar

This wood type is also compatible with a wide range of finishes. A combination of shellac and lacquer produces a glossy appearance for objects used as centerpieces. Polyurethane provides a clean coating that resists water damage and scratches. Wood oil emphasizes the material's natural grain.

Live Edge Wood Care

Like most wood furnishings, live edge products require attention to preserve their beauty and maximize longevity. Keeping it dry should be the top priority, as this will prevent swelling or cracking that can cause structural damage. Wiping the piece with a slightly damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning. You should also keep the furnishing away from direct sunlight.

Apply liquid or spray sealers to prevent staining and discoloration. Adding a wood finish every year or two protects against moisture damage from spills. Using an oil-based furniture polish will help retain the shine and remove accumulated dirt and dust.
